Dr Broodryk was the first person to obtain a doctorate’s degree on the philosophy of uBuntu or Ubuntu (the Zulu word for humanness). He dedicated the thesis to the political icon Nelson Mandela who signed his original thesis. In his doctoral research he was educated by top African thinkers like Walter Sisulu, Kgalushi Drake Koka, Prof Lesiba Teffo, Prof Mathole Motshekga, Dr Mulalo Nemavhandu, Prof Gail Presbey, Prof Lovemore Mbigi, Dr Oscar Dhlomo and Justus Tshungu.

Academic

He did his empirical research in the remote African areas of Zululand, Swaziland, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, Venda, Qwa-qwa, Ovangoland,  Mozambique and Kenya. His doctorate qualification was awarded by the Department of Philosophy, UNISA (University of South Africa), and the title of his thesis was ”Ubuntuism as a worldview to order society”.  He also served on the Research Unit for African Philosophy at UNISA, and he was a guest lecturer at various academic institutions.

His other qualifications include BA (Political Science, Philosophy and Law), BA Honours (Political Philosophy), which he passed with distinction (Cum Laude), as well as a MA degree on open societies. Broodryk also obtained academic certificates in Small Business Management (University of the Witwatersrand), Capacity Building Programmes (Erasmus University, Rotterdam), Advanced Project Management (Regenesys College), Development Administration (UNISA), Tourism (THETA) and Real Estate (Luceum College). He completed professional marketing courses at SANLAM, Old Mutual, Metropolitan Life and the Pretoria Property Exchange.

uBuntu School of Philosophy

He established the uBuntu School of Philosophy in Tshwane (Pretoria), Gauteng, South Africa.

Broodryk is primarily a training consultant on uBuntu management philosophy and uBuntu life coping skills. He has written seven books on the subject of uBuntu, and delivered papers on the subject at several conferences/workshops in Limpopo (South Africa), Brazil, Netherlands, England, Cyprus, Greece, France, and New Zealand.  

He trains companies on uBuntu management, and as a philosophical consultant/life coach he is also providing life coping skills to top management and individuals seeking philosophical counselling.

Social involvement

Broodryk has a broad business and management background. In the business environment, his broker business excelled in the marketing of real estate and speculation of properties. In the assurance field he specialised in new born baby investments. He was an upper class restaurant and caterer entrepreneur focussing on the provision of these services to high profile politicians. 

In the organisational world, he managed and led thousands of young people in community development and entrepreneurship programmes in the Gauteng and Mpumalanga Provinces, based on the principles of uBuntu. His involvement included working with youths in conflict with the law.

He is also involved in providing assistance to civilians who were retrenched from their professions, and to give guidance for new solutions to their problems. As a counsellor/life couch, he applies the ONPO-analysis, which he developed in his books for troubled people for the re-planning of their personal life paths.

In the political arena he led the anti-apartheid movement Young South Africans at the University of Pretoria and later stood s a candidate for the ANC in a municipal election in Pretoria East. 

Broodryk participated in numerous television and radio discussions on uBuntu philosophy.

Tourism

Due to international interest in uBuntu practical living, he recently became involved in African cultural events for the company Fun Tourism.
